Fall candle decorating ideas using a candle ring

If you’re crafty or looking for a quick DIY project, fall candle rings can easily be made with crafting supplies and a hot glue gun.

Floral sprays, faux leaves, fruit, pine cones and small faux pumpkins all make for beautiful elements of a homemade candle ring.

Fall candle decorating ideas using a candle ring

If you’re worried about having material so close to an open flame, consider using flameless LED candles inside your candle rings. Battery operated candles don’t involve the risk of fire and are safe to use around pets and kids.

Sideboard Vignette

I love changing the decor on my dining room sideboard as the seasons change throughout the year. Sideboards make for a beautiful focal point in a room or hallway.

Fall decorating with candles on your sideboard vignette offers a few benefits. For one, they add a stunning glow at night and can help create an inviting atmosphere.

Additionally, because there are so many different ways to display candles, they can really help add height and dimension to your decor.

In the sideboard vignette above, not only are the candles displayed in lanterns (which help reflect the light) but they also sit atop candle pedestals. This fills the space vertically and makes the vignette look complete.

Inside Baskets & Bowls

Fall candle decorating ideas using a dough bowl on a sideboard

It’s easy to add candles to baskets and bowls that you may be using for centerpieces and displays.

Rustic wooden bowls or dough bowls such as the one shown above look beautiful with fall decor items as they evoke the feel of autumn trees.

If you’re worried about an open flame next to decor items, consider using battery operated candles instead.

Tall pillars that rise above vase filler items are generally safe to include in a candle centerpiece. But always use your best judgement.

Coffee Table Centerpieces

One of the easiest fall candle decorating ideas is to use candles on a coffee table centerpiece. Coffee table decor is often a focal point for a room, and having candles there can help draw the eye towards your display.

Elegant fall candle centerpieces might have the candle displayed in a glass candle hurricane. The hurricane will reflect the light and give the space an enchanting feel.

A fall centerpiece with candles and small pumpkins arranged on a tray allows for the centerpiece to easily be move around if needed.

If you have kids or use your coffee table for activities, consider building autumn centerpieces on a tray. It will help make the room feel decorated but also keep the space functional.

Kitchen Table, Counter & Island Displays

Many people forgot to decorate their kitchen as the seasons change. But this is one place in the house where people often gather together to cook food and share a meal. Cozy fall decorating ideas working well in the kitchen because of the warmth of the room.

Decorating a kitchen for fall doesn’t have to be complicated. There are many different fall table decoration ideas you can easily implement. A simple display using a candle, pine cones and a cloth place mat makes for a beautiful vignette.

Fall decorating with candles in the kitchen can involve using scented wax candles. Scented candles are perfect to use when you want to hide various cooking smells.

Or use fall scented candles throughout your space to evoke an autumn mood. Many people forgot that smell can have just as much an impact on the atmosphere of your space as physical decor items.

Fall Porch Displays

I don’t know about you, but personally I love decorating a porch for fall with mums, string lights, pumpkins and gourds. The color combinations are endless and it’s such a fun way to welcome people to your home.

Fall candle decorating ideas can be used throughout these displays in a variety of ways. For starters, lanterns are a classic porch decor item. Paired with flameless candles and fairy lights, they provide a warm glow throughout the evening.

But you can also get creative with porch displays as well. The photo above shows LED floating candles in a metal pail with bobbing apples! These fall candle decorations would be perfect way to welcome guest to a fall house party. Submersible LED tea lights in the bottom of the pail would be fun too.

Outdoor Displays

Fall is a magical time to be outside. As a result, crisp fall nights are perfect for hanging out around the fire pit, roasting marshmallows and enjoying hot apple cider.

Another fall candle decorating idea – use candles during outdoor dining. Consider hosting an outdoor fall themed dinner party as the summer winds down but before the nights get too cold.

Various Luminara candles used in the setting shown above make for an inviting tablescape. These decorative autumn candles can be used throughout your winter decor as well.

Fall Candle Decorating Ideas With Lanterns

Lanterns with candles are perfect for decorating year round. But in the fall, adding pine cones, leaves, acorns, faux flowers, etc. inside your lantern will help your achieve that classic autumn look.

Alternatively, keep the lantern clean looking and place it among small pumpkins, fall flowers and other decor objects on a coffee table centerpiece or as part of a vignette.

If you’re crafty or looking for a fun DIY project, consider decorating the top of a lantern with fall colored ribbons, greenery, leaves and flowers.

These lantern toppers are very popular and you can find lots of different ideas on Pinterest for your fall candle decorations.

Fireplace & Mantel Decor

Fall nights can be crisp and chilly. As a result, there’s nothing quite as cozy in the fall as a fire glowing in the hearth. Moving flame flameless candles used on the sides of the fireplace and on the mantle add to the warmth and ambiance of a living room.

Did you know that many flameless candles have a timer feature? This allows the candles to automatically turn on and off at a certain time each night.

If you don’t build fires in your fireplace, consider filling the space with flameless candles instead. You can easily do this by purchasing a flameless candle set. Many sets aren’t too pricey and will give you a bunch of flameless candles to use in your home decor.

Using the timer feature, they will provide a warm glow in the hearth night after night and you won’t need to remember to turn them on or off.

Fall Candle Decorating Ideas With Candle Gardens

Fall candle decorating ideas using faux greenery, tray & pumpkins

It’s easy to create a candle garden in your living room. All you need is a set of LED pillar candles in various sizes, a tray, basket or something similar and some small filler objects.

I like the idea of using LED push flame candles in a candle garden – you can push on the flame piece to turn them on and off. No need to lift up the candle or use a remote!

Simply place the candles within the basin and arrange in an eye catching manner. Slowly add in the filler objects and decor pieces to create beautiful autumn candle decorations that can be used throughout your space.

For a noteworthy Thanksgiving display, consider using seasonal fruit, pine cones and fresh greenery in the base of your candle garden. It’s sure way to impress your guests and create a stunning Thanksgiving tablescape.

Fall Candle Decorating Ideas With Candle Holders

Fall candle decorating ideas using candle stands, pumpkins

Candle holders serve a few different functions in your decor and are featured in many of these fall candle decorating ideas. For instance, they help add height to a display which can be challenging to do. Additionally, they also help convey your sense of style throughout a space.

A little designer secret you may not have thought of before: candle holders don’t need to be specifically designed to hold candles! For instance, a glass cloche makes for a beautiful way to display LED candles for autumn (real wax candles don’t work as well under the glass).

Cake stands and raised trays can also be used to display candles. Search around your house to see what you might already have to use for candle pillars. You might be surprised by what you are able to create.

Fall Candle Decorating Ideas With Candlesticks

Candlesticks aren’t as popular as they used to be for home decor. But LED taper candles are a classic decor item and can really add an elegant feel to a Thanksgiving or fall centerpiece.

One of the nice things about candlesticks is that they give the appearance of height to a tablescape but still allow people to view each other across the table. They make for an intimate, cozy setting.

You can use traditional white or ivory taper candles throughout your fall candle decorating ideas. Or consider using tapers in various fall colors and textures.

Thanksgiving Fall Centerpieces for Tables

Fall candle decorating ideas for a tablescape

One of the reasons I like to decorate for fall is that the decorations can be kept up through Thanksgiving. A fall centerpiece that you setup in September can easily be used for a Thanksgiving table.

There are so many fun ways to use candles in your Thanksgiving fall centerpiece. Tall pillars can be dispersed throughout fall greenery garland or displayed on candle pillars for some added height.

LED votive candles can be placed throughout the table providing a warm glow and a sense of ambiance. I like the idea of using small wooden t

ea light or votive candle holders for a fall candle decor.

You can use regular white or ivory candles in fall centerpieces. Or consider using candles that have fun fall shapes and colors. Luminara makes beautiful primitive style flameless candles that are perfect for a fall centerpiece.

Or consider Luminara’s flameless pine cone candles. They’re perfect for fall decorations and transition well into the winter/holiday season.

Vintage Glass & Mercury Glass

Many people realize the value in the using vintage objects throughout their space for a unique look and feel. Elegant vintage glass or “Indiana glass” is ideal to use throughout your fall decor.

Mercury glass works with a wide variety of decor styles and can be the right touch for your fall candle decorating ideas. For instance, consider using gold mercury glass votives with fall greenery. Or place candles near a mercury glass pumpkin.

Vintage glass comes in a wide variety of colors and styles. Traditional fall colors such as red, amber and green are available as well as more modern fall colors such as rose pink.

You can easily find vintage glass on sites like eBay and Etsy. If you’re having trouble finding vintage glass candle holders that will work, check out Amazon for new glass candles holders with a vintage feel.

Also check out vintage glass “fairy lamps” which are perfect to use with LED tealights.

Fall Candle Decorating Ideas With Hurricanes

Some fall candle decorating ideas help reflect light throughout your space. Hurricanes are a classic way to display candles throughout your home. The glass helps reflect the candlelight and provides a warm glow.

Candle hurricanes usually come in two varieties – clear glass and decorative glass. Clear glass will show the candles and reflect more light. You can use vase filler, faux flowers and dried greenery in the bottom of the hurricane to add dimension and style to your look.

Decorative glass hurricanes are a great way to use candles that you may want to hide. For instance, if you don’t like the look of LED candles and want to hide the faux flames. Or maybe you have wax candles that don’t match your color scheme.

A decorative glass hurricane allows you to still get the soft glow from these candles but hides the body of the candle from being seen. Decorative hurricanes come in a wide variety of shapes and colors. You’re sure to find something to match your fall candle decor. Or consider making your own using craft supplies.

Stairways

If you have a prominent staircase in your home, consider decorating it for the seasons. In fall, pumpkins, gourds, decorative corn and other items all work well along a stairway.

If you want to use candles on the stairs, consider using flameless candles to reduce the risk of fire. You can hide flameless candles inside of lanterns, votive holders, or hurricanes. As a result, the candles provide a soft glow in the evening hours and serve as tiny nightlights.

Homemade Candles

Some of these fall candle decorating ideas are geared towards those who like a good craft project. Making homemade candles is a fun and easy craft that you can quickly accomplish over a weekend. In the photo above, water, veggie oil and food coloring are used to make Halloween candles.

This is a simple recipe that works well for those who don’t want to deal with melting wax. Click on the picture above for more info on how to make these colorful candles.

For those that want to work with melted wax, jar candles are fun to make but still easy enough for a beginners. You can find all different kinds of wax colors and fall scents to make a batch of jar candles that will last throughout the season. Jar candles make great gifts, too.

In conclusion, you can easily make different kinds of fall candles to display around your house, use for a party or to give as gifts.

Bookcases & Shelves

Displaying lit traditional wax candles on a bookcase can potentially be a fire hazard. But you can still get the warm glow of candles on your bookcase and shelves by using flameless candles instead.

Depending on the height of the bookcase shelves, candles can be displayed in a variety of ways. For example, inside of lanterns or used as a bookends are two cozy fall decor ideas using candles.

In addition, vintage candlesticks and candle holders can be used to give height to your display. Consider using flameless taper candles or small votive holders dispersed throughout the shelves.

Fall Candle Decorating Ideas With Trays & Charger Plates

Fall candle decorating ideas using a tray

One of the best fall candle decorating ideas involves using decorative trays. Decorative trays are perfect for holding candles, small pumpkins, leaves and other fall decor objects. A tray serves to anchor smaller items and helps to group them into an eye catching display centered around a flameless Liown candle or two.

Trays come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes and colors. For a rustic feel, consider using galvanized metal trays or wood trays.

For a more glam fall look, consider using shiny metal trays or mirrored trays. Woven rattan trays evoke a bohemian feel. Metal platters and ceramic serving trays speak more toward traditional decor styles.

Fall candle decorating ideas using faux greenery, wood charger, pine cones

In addition to trays, wood charger plates provide a smooth base to display candles and other decorative objects. The wood bark gives a sense of falling leaves in the woods. In the photo above, primitive Luminara flameless candles are displayed along with decorative fall objects.

Wood charger plates are easily found in home decor stores or online. Additional charger plate styles can be used with candles to create an eye catching fall centerpiece or vignette.

Fall Leaf Candle Wraps

For a simple, yet beautiful craft project that can be completed in a weekend, look no further than fall leaf candle wraps.

The basic supplies needed include candles, real or faux leaves and a way to attach the leaves to the candles (glue, twine, ribbon, etc.).

Additionally, the leaves can be attached to a candle holder or a mason jar as shown in the photo above. This fall leaf mason jar candle holder craft is perfect for teens as well as adults.

In conclusion, I hope these fall candle decorating ideas inspire you to create a colorful and cozy look this autumn. I know that decorating can be frustrating sometimes. But adding fall decor to your space can help give your home a warm, inviting ambiance.

I like how you mentioned that candles in lanterns are perfect decorations all year. My husband and I have wanted to start decorating our home that we moved into last month and we needed something as a centerpiece for our table. I remember this and look for a cute and reliable metal candle lantern company that I can buy lanterns from.
