Fall Front Porch Decor Ideas

Fall is one of my favorite times of year, and I love to put out fall decorations all over the house.

With fall decor, you can be fairly creative with what you choose to display. There’s something really fun about choosing which color pumpkins and mums to use for fall front porch decorations.

If you’re looking to change up your fall front porch decor this year or need some inspiration on how to decorate a front porch for fall, then check out these festive, colorful and fun autumn porch ideas!

Mum Displays For Fall Front Porch Decor

One of my favorite fall front porch decor ideas is to create a beautiful display of mums on your front porch or front steps. Mums look lovely displayed with pumpkins near a front door or going up the steps to your house.

If you’re steps are fairly wide, such as what’s shown in the photo above, consider taking up a good portion of the staircase with mums and pumpkins. This can really make a statement when you have a fair amount of steps!

A brick house with a front porch decorated with colorful potted chrysanthemums, pumpkins, and green plants. The steps are lined with flowers in yellow, orange, purple, and pink, creating a vibrant autumn scene.

On the other hand, if your steps are more narrow, then consider displaying some mums on your steps and other mums off to the side or directly on the porch. Add a few pumpkins and gourds here and there to complete the look.

Pumpkin Displays For Fall Front Porches

Similar to displaying a bunch of mums on your front porch for fall, a large grouping of pumpkins and gourds can make a statement.

In the photo above, pumpkins and gourds of all different shapes, sizes and colors are displayed next to a few potted mums on the front steps of this porch.

Many people don’t want to mix bright colors with muted colors for fall, but I think this works well for a front porch display. Of course you can also stick to just classic fall colors or more neutral fall colors if that’s what works best for your decor.

Fall Front Porch Decorations With Hay Bales

A front porch decorated for autumn with hay bales, orange and white pumpkins, gourds, and a fall wreath on a wooden door. The decorations are arranged on the steps and around the entrance.

Another great way to decorate a front porch for autumn is to use hay bales. One thing that I love about hay bales is that you can stack other decorations on top of them to add some height to your fall front porch decor.

You can also stack hay bales on top of each other for even more height. If you’re looking for a cute place to take photos for fall, consider making a backdrop on your porch using stacked hay bales, mums, pumpkins and gourds.

Fall Front Porch Decor With Cornstalks

One of the things I love to grow in my garden each summer is Indian corn. It’s fun to harvest in the fall and you get a free supply of cornstalks to use for decorating!

Of course, if you don’t have the space or desire to grow Indian corn, you can purchase cornstalks at many farms stands that sell pumpkins.

Cornstalks are also a great way to add height to your decor. They look nice on either side of a door such as what’s shown in the photo above. Place mums, pumpkins, gourds and other fun fall decorations in front of them for a nice display.

Lanterns On A Fall Front Porch

I love to add lanterns into any front porch display, including on a fall front porch. They look really cute tucked in between pumpkins on the steps, or near the door with mums.

I like to use flamelesss candles in my porch lanterns as they give off a nice glow without having to worry about a flame. You can find many lanterns on the market these days that include LED candles. Just make sure that the candles are rated for outdoor use.

Greenery For Fall Front Porches

Potted ferns make for lovely decorations on your front porch in the summer months. But why not use them going into the fall months as well? Many fern plants are still healthy and green into September and October, so it makes sense to keep them on display.

I like how the green color of the ferns looks nice paired with the orange and white pumpkins shown in the photo above. A nice fall wreath on the door brings the look together.

Wreaths For Fall Front Porches

Speaking of wreaths, you’ll want to make sure you include one for your fall front porch display this year. Wreaths come in a wide variety of styles and colors, and can be fun to change out as the seasons progress.

For a cohesive look on your front porch, use a fall leaf wreath such as what’s shown in the photo above paired with pumpkins and mums in matching shades.

If you like to display deco mesh wreaths on your front door, then a fall mesh wreath is a must. One of the things I like about deco mesh wreaths is that they can take up a lot of space.

This is handy if you have a large front door or have a double front door. A wreath on your front door that this too small might look a bit awkward compared to other front porch decorations.

Neutral Fall Front Porch Decorations

A lot of people like farmhouse style decor these days and it works perfectly for fall decorations. You’ll want to use neutral and muted colors schemes for your farmhouse front porch decor such as what’s shown in the photo above.

These colors are great for transitioning from summer decorations into fall front porch decorations. And you can leave these decorations out all the way through November if you choose to.

Fall Front Porch Decor With White Pumpkins

Another great way to get a farmhouse vibe on your front porch this autumn is to decorate with white pumpkins. White pumpkins have become trendy in recent years, and they are a nice change of pace from the classic orange shades of the season.

Pair white pumpkins with white mums and soft orange or red colors for a festive look on your front porch.

Rustic Fall Porch Decor

While farmhouse fall decor can look fairly modern, rustic fall decor is all about a weathered, end of the season kind of look. Don’t be afraid to use rusted decorations such as old watering cans, weather lanterns and rusted signs on your front porch for fall.

If your porch has rocking chairs, consider creating a rustic fall display next to them with pumpkins, gourds, mums and leaves such as what’s shown in the photo above.

Fall Front Porch Signs

Finally, consider using a sign or two on your front porch to decorate for the fall season. One nice thing about using signs is that they can be hung against the side of your house to add some height to your front porch decorations.

Or they can lean against furniture or other objects to provide visual interest closer to the ground.
