Patriotic Wreath & Door Hanger Ideas
Are you someone that likes to display a nice wreath on your front door to celebrate the different holidays and seasons?
Personally, I love to change out my front door wreaths for a different look from time to time. When the summer holidays start, it’s time to go full on red, white and blue!
One of the fun things about front door wreaths and door hangers is that if you’re crafty, you can make your own. Or for those like myself that aren’t good at crafts or are short on time, you can buy one premade.
But what should you make or buy? There are so many different patriotic wreath ideas out there – let’s check out a few!
Red, White & Blue Grapevine Wreath
If you’re looking to do a rustic or country theme on your front porch for Fourth of July, you can’t go wrong with a classic grapevine wreath. Grapevine wreaths are easy to find at craft stores and come in a wide range of sizes and styles.
To decorate a grapevine wreath in a patriotic manner, simply add some red, white and blue decorations to it. In the photo above, simple pip berry floral sprays are placed throughout the grapevine wreath for a festive touch.
Another take on a country & rustic style patriotic grapevine wreath is to display something in the middle of it. In the photo above, a painted metal star wreath attachment creates a nice focal point for this patriotic wreaths for front door.
Patriotic Mesh Wreath
Deco mesh wreaths are fun to make and look great displayed on the front door to your house. These wreaths tend to look very full and take up a fair amount of space. Because of this, they are a great option for those with wide front doors or even a double front door.
If you’re crafty, there are lots of tutorials on how to make a deco mesh wreath. Here is one of my favorites:
For those that like the look of deco mesh wreaths, but aren’t crafty or don’t have the time to make one, not to worry. There are plenty of sellers on Etsy that make gorgeous deco mesh wreaths that you can purchase. Or consider having one custom made.
Patriotic Burlap Wreath
Similar to deco mesh wreaths, you can make a patriotic wreath out of burlap materials. Burlap gives a rustic or farmhouse kind of vibe to your front porch and is very Americana looking.
You can find red, white and blue burlap fabrics to use for your wreath. Or consider using brown burlap as a base and incorporating red, white and blue details throughout the wreath.
Patriotic Wreath Attachments
I mentioned using stars in the middle of your wreath for a festive, patriotic look, but you can find other wreath attachments to use. Here are a few wreath attachments that work well for patriotic wreaths for front door:
- Small dolls
- Uncle Sam figurines
- Crosses
- Flags
- Eagles
- Stars & Stripes
- Red, white & blue ornaments
- Signs
If you have some small patriotic decorations already, you might be able to create a wreath using what you have on hand. Wreath bases are easy to find at craft stores. Some floral wire or pipe cleaners work great to add wreath attachments to your wreath.
Patriotic Star Door Hanger
One of my favorite patriotic front door ideas is to use door hangers instead of wreaths. If you found an object that is too big to use as a wreath attachment, consider just using it as a patriotic door hanger instead.
In the photo above, a large metal start painted with the American flag takes up plenty of space on a front door.
These hanging wall stars are widely available at craft stores and online. I like how you can have a one hanging from your front door, several hanging from a porch railing and others scattered about your front yard for a cohesive look.
Fourth of July Door Hanger
Patriotic signs also make for a cute 4th of July door hanger. Just make sure to use a sign that is big enough to take up a fair amount of space on your front door. Signs that are too small can look awkward against the large backdrop of your front door.
If you have a small patriotic sign that you want to use, consider hanging it from a wall mounted porch light fixture, mailbox or house numbers instead.
Patriotic Flower Door Hanger
If you’re wanting to decorate with red, white and blue florals, but don’t want to arrange them in a circular wreath, consider making a patriotic door hanger instead.
Red, white and blue flowers can be grouped together in a swag that is hung from your front door. Or consider doing something like what is shown in the photo above – patriotic flowers are displayed in a small basket hanging on a front door. A flag helps complete the look.
Patriotic Flag Wreath
Another one of my favorite patriotic wreath ideas is to incorporate flags into the design of your wreath. One simple way to do this is to drape an American flag across your wreath and tie it off on one side.
This is a beautiful way to display the stars and stripes on your front door. I love how it also adds some depth to a red white and blue wreath as part of the flag will hang further down the door.
Floral Patriotic Wreath
I mentioned using pip berries, deco mesh, burlap, wreath attachments and flags to decorate a patriotic wreath. But what about using just regular florals? Using faux florals on a wreath can work great for a patriotic vibe.
The one thing I would look out for though is the shade of the blue flowers. Most flowers in nature are a lighter and bright shade of blue than the darker blue shades associated with the American flag colors. So using lighter blue flowers will look more realistic, but might not be exactly the same shade of blue as your other patriotic decorations.
Patriotic Wood Curl Wreath
Wood curl wreaths are fun to use for any holiday, including the American patriotic celebrations. Wood curl wreaths feature lots of little wood pieces that are shaped into different designs and patterns.
Sometimes these are real wood pieces and other times they are plastic pieces designed to look like real wood. Because of the different textures of the wood curls, this Fourth of July wreath has a lot of visual appeal when shown on a front door.
